1766:.....the word restaurant,is derived from France's first public eating house, where the emphasis was on food ,as opposed to an inn ,where the emphasis was on the booze. The name restaurant came from the soup that this eating house served. it was made from sheeps feet,in a white sauce, and was called divine restorante.. which translates to,divine restorative.....these days we have viagra.......

1769:.......Gordons gin is born,in the London suburb of Finsbury, and speaking of births, the birth-rate of that suburb tripled in the next twelve months............ hence gins nickname of...mothers ruin...

1776:the word cocktail, was invented in a New York tavern.
The barmaid had decorated her bar, with discarded tail feathers from the poultry that had been roasted and served to patrons. a patron jokingly demands that she bring him a glass of these cock-tails,so she mixes him a spirit, garnished with a cock-tail feather. before long, everyone was asking for these special cock-tail drinks.
Bloody good job that ostriches were not in vogue at the
time.................Jacqui now has all the original cock-tail recipes, and is known to throw one hell of a cocktail party in Wellington.............................for an invite,e-mail Jaq's.

1780:the Northern Irish are delighted, and very merry, with the opening of John Jamesons whisky distillery, followed by the opening of Bushmills distillery in 1784........now where have I heard of those names before........

1790:the first bourbon whisky is distilled by a Baptist minister in Kentucky county.....he boasts that his congregation is the largest and merriest in the whole of Kentucky.....

Hawksy is very impressed, and want to know if they serve diet coke with that brand of bourbon.,,,no hawksy....coke had not been invented at that stage of the game. ....me thinks....was the sacrament in the ministers church bread and wine, or bread and bourbon...................the same year saw the birth of the worlds first carbonated beverage company, started in Geneca, by Jacob Scheweppe.

Bartons Banquets and Bullshite.

Did you ever wonder at the origin of our chefs hats and caps.....well,in
1793:.....French chefs fleeing the French revolutions reign of terror, introduced the tall white 'toque',to Britain, along with French cooking. but the English master chefs continued to wear the short caps, made of black cloth, which originated from being worn to catch the soot, as it fell from the chimneys, as they operated the spits on the hearth.ovens. Only the chief cook in these kitchens was entitled to wear the black cap.......... ........and i think that is where the habit of a judge wearing a black cap came from.
There were so many lousy cooks about at that time, that the law was passed to execute the really bad ones, and to mock them further, the judge would wear the chefs black hat, when handing down the death sentence...............this is after all,Bartons Banquets and Bullshite...................you decide what's true....

1796: the "Veuve Cliquot"....meaning widow cliquot, begins to make her now famous French champagne. Nicole Cliquot, aged 20,I s the daughter of the mayor of Reims, and wife of three years to clicquot, the vinter. His untimely death, caused by an extremely bad case of colic and wind, from over sampling his concoctions of champagne, left poor Nicole with no option, but to keep the business going.....didn't she do well.

1779:the word "cocktail",appears in print for the first time in a new York newspaper, which calls it a stimulating liquor, composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water and bitters.

and speaking of bitters...."angostura bitters" was invented in 1819, in the town of angastura, venezuela,by a German doctor and surgeon. it was introduced to the brits,as a stomach tonic, but you all know how enterprising we poms are,we took it as a stomach tonic,in our gin, hence
the birth of pink gin. we really did not mind what you put in our gin....as long as it was more gin.......

1830:Teachers highland cream whisky, has its beginning in a distillery in Glasgow, opened by William Teacher,a ged 19.....boy,did he have one hell of a 21st birthday party...........
